What do you mean by "assigned and event to an individual item"?

Would you please show me an example, preferably a database snippet, so I can take a look on how DXC handles it.

I do not understand how to insert an image here can you send me your email address and I can do it in outlook.

Thanks

I will show you the steps I used to get to get to this screen --> ( assigned and event to an individual item ).

Press F2 select -> Database -> movies ->edit movies database then you will see a list of the movies on the left colum select one Example: Rocky, in the popup window on the top you will see TABs labeled DEFAULT / SPIDER / ADVANCED / SPIDER ADVANCED select the ADVANCED Tab, then you will see ( assigned and event to an individual item ) with a ADD button next to it. This is the location that I add the events I want to use with that movie it will look like this when I ADD and event.

DVDChange:dvd1 or DVDChanger:dvd2 ect..

What happens is that after I add the event and run your app the information I added ( DVDChanger:dvd1 ) will go away and back to the default that will say this --> ( no event assigned ).

I hope this helps I did uncheck a lot of the default setting in your app and still it overwrights this information.

Thanks again

Jovial

One other Question that might resolve the problem; can your app update only the files that are new in other words when it does the conversion from DVDProfler to Xlobby and it looks at the movie.xml file can it only update what has been added or changed that way it would not modify or change the assigned events ect...

Just like a Backup program does / Incremental Backup

Thanks

Ok, now I understand what you mean.

The problem with the overwritten data is that the program(DXC) uses only the DVD Profiler database (XML) for data input. The Xlobby xml is only used for data output. Therefor there is no way to preserve any data that only exists in the Xlobby xml file without rewriting the program completely. DXC works more or less like a conversion program, converting DVD Profiler xml to an xml file that Xlobby can read.

A possible workaround might be to use the notes field in DVD Profiler together with the already existing DXCParameter function. That's the only way to import custom data in the existing version of DXC.

Thanks for the responce back.

Can you Explain in more detail about the notes field. I see it when I go to export an xml file from DVD Profiler but I do not understand how to do what your are saying.

Would it be possible to show me in some way so I can try it out.

Ok, I wrote a test version you can try out.

You can download it from http://www.jovialmood.st/files/dxc/dxc2_100222.zip (89k).

This version of the program reads the event node from DVD Profiler notes field.

An example:
If you want the event DVDChange:dvd1 for a specific movie title you need to add this line in the notes field in DVD Profiler:

DXCEvent="DVDChange:dvd1"

By the way, to access the DVD Profiler notes field, first select a movie title in the collection list, then select menu DVD / Personalize (hotkey Ctrl+P).

You'll end up with a window looking similar to this:

Great News: It worked.. I will Test it out some more and let you know.

Would it be possible to send be a new build with the new vevison # so I do not get it mixed up with the old version 2.1.

The format I had to use to get it to work was ..DXCEvent="DVD Changers:dvd1" a small error in your documintation but I go it figured out.

P.S I would like to test out any new versions you come out with.

FYI. Have you had a chance to test it out with the Beta of DVDProfiler 3.6 yet.

Thanks again for all your help..

I appreciate it so much that you took the time to do this for me, I hope it did not take to much of your time.

What you sent me the last time worked out great Thanks again.

I was wondring if you could do it again but this time I am woking on a couple of DACAL machines.

I would like it to look for this in the notes field DACAL:DACAL_1 or look for DACAL:DACAL_2 I have two Dacal devices.

FYI. You can daisy chain up to 127 Dacal devices together.
http://www.3dvelocity.com/reviews/dacal/dc300_2.htm

Maybe it could look one of the following in the notes field..

DACAL:DACAL_1
DACAL:DACAL_2

DVDChangers:dvd1
DVDChangers:dvd2
DVDChangers:dvd3

What ever is easier to program.

Thanks again..

If it's still an event you want to assign to a specific movie, the test version you already got should work just fine.

The syntax is DXCEvent="any_text_you_want" in the DVD Profiler notes field.

So any of these lines should be read by DXC:

DXCEvent="DACAL:DACAL_1"
DXCEvent="DACAL:DACAL_2"

DXCEvent="DVDChangers:dvd1"
DXCEvent="DVDChangers:dvd2"
DXCEvent="DVDChangers:dvd3"

Please note that DXC doesn't verify that it is a valid event, it takes whatever text you put there.

HI.

I had talked to you before about a problem I had that you were able to help me with regarding you application DXC Import.

I have another Question: Does your app have an option to Import the Director or Actor when I look at my database it does not show that it has imported that information can you help me with this.

Thanks

In DXC you need to click "Setup/Select information to import" and then check the information you want to import.

If you select "Actors" the five first actors in movie credits will be imported to Xlobby DB <actors> node.
If you select "Cast" the complete cast will be imported to Xlobby <cast> node.
If you select "Crew" the complete crew will be imported to Xlobby <crew> node.

Now that you mentioned it I noticed that only DXC versions prior to 2.0 imports data to the Xlobby <director> node. I've added the director option again in DXC v2.2.

You can download it here:
v2.2 (10 August 2010) http://www.jovialmood.st/files/dxc/dxc22.zip (91k)

I also rewrote the code for crew and cast importing in v2.2 as it was very slow in prior versions.

Import examples from the film "The Book of Eli":
