xLobby Doors in Motion Integration

Postby wesblack on Wed Dec 01, 2010 3:47 pm

Doors in Motion systems are quiet, efficient and visually non-intrusive. They provide solutions for all sizes of sliding doors and windows. Below is further information on their systems and one example xLobby can control them.

Hey Bill,

I've been controlling garage doors and entry gates with xLobby for years.

Try: Insteon, X-10, Pulseworx, RS-232, etc.
But you know this already.

but how did you get your garage door motor to activate?
and the garage door opener does not have a 232 port.

the garage door opener has a wireless pad outside, but that transmits radio i believe.
how did you do your setup?
:)

Isn't there a momentary switch contact somewhere?

but the unit doesn't open with power, it opens from a wireless signal.
so i would need a way to produce an FM signal for the unit to read.

I'm still using x10 wired to the momentary switch on the opener. Been working for years without problems... Have a couple x10 contact switches that also monitor door position. That way I can interface with xLobby and Homeseer so I can send emails and scroll "Garage Door Opening" message thru the betabrite sign above the home theater screen.

but what sends the 'open' command.
and how does the garage door recieve it and process the signal to know it's time to open.

are you hard wired 232 to the opener? i don't understand how the switch would work, turning on and off
the switch would be the same as pulling the plug and inserting the plug, or am i missing something here.

this would be nice to have since i just turned my garage into a showroom, with acrylic floors and moulding and special paint.
right now i have a keypad in front of the garage that sends FM signal to the opener. how would XL send that same signal?

thanks Mr bill
maybe you could post some pics of your garage setup.
next time your in ny you have to drop by again, so i can show you all my upgrades :)

ditto on the X-10 module.
http://www.x10pro.com/pro/pdf/pum01.pdf
It is a contact-closure module I mounted in the ceiling outlet where the opener is plugged in.
I wired the pum01's contact terminals to the door opener's "contact closure activation" terminals - most garage doors have an option to connect a "push-button" wall-mounted switch, and this is where you connect something like the "pum01".

I use a WACI controller (http://waciworld.com/)to monitor the "states" of the relays on a board connected to the alarm panel that monitors the garage doors.
When a door is opened or closed, the WACI "sees" the state that the relay changes to and sends the appropriate HTTP POST command to xLobby over the network ("door# open" or "door# close", where # is the door number - I monitor 3 doors including the front door.

I have created and assigned events to triggers for the various HTTP POST commands that the WACI may send.

For example, if a garage door stays open for more than 5 minutes, xLobby outputs an audio .wav "announcement" on an audio zone that is only connected to the page inputs of the distributed audio system so that the appropriate message will be played in the pre-designated rooms/areas. After another 5 minutes and a second notification, if the user does not "request" to have the door left open, xLobby will close the door. - Of course, a user can "tell" xLobby to leave the door open for any period of time by adding "delay" buttons, or an "inputbutton" where the user can select the delay time, but I didn't do this yet.

The garage door opener's sensors are responsible for making sure nothing is in the way when attempting to close the door.

I hope this helps.
