What are people using for Shoutcast?

Ok ok guys... here's what I'm after...

Initially a set of icons for each genre, all of uniform size. These can be for the main genres to start with, put I would prefer to have something for all!!! And the a nice generic station icon. Meanwhile I need to sort out some "busy" graphics for when I'm polling the shoutcast site - those I can reuse some ajax ones I have lying around for now.

First thoughts, after jowaldos launching me into another dimension, is to have a genre cat down one side and a station cat for the rest of the screen with a now playing area etc...

The genre cat will be updated on an ad-hoc basis, as will the top 20 from each main cat. Then there will be the obligitory a-z searching etc... hmmm

ok - start off simple, I'll get a prototype set up for the weekend and release in the plugins for alpha testing..

Can't wait! It seems now, every time I get some stations setup that I like and manually entered, they change them on me.

THANKS DEFRAG!!!

Yeah the urls changing pretty much make the directory browsing a requirement... and even then its not super reliable :?

I've noticed the same for other digital streams, here in the UK all the BBC radio stations are availbale as asx (windows media) or rm(*shudder*) streams, but they change quite frequently. There is another site that handles those and I will be doing the same for that after I've got this nailed.

yeah my XM radio skin URL-hopped on me also... became frustrated and gave it up...

EDIT: URL-hopping: new expression just coined by me for this phenomenon, analogious to frequency hopping... ancient radio technique against eavesdropping, jamming and other interference. I think i should sometimes write a thread defining all weird bear concepts and terms so newbs here could read me also... :D

... as you do...

Thanks Baddabing. It will give me some testing images anyway - most useful, and some defaults to add to the plugin. I will leave it open for ppl to use their own images (somehow). So I expect to see some Marble shaped ones on the hoizon :D

Back to coding 8)

Umm....errr....if your expecting to see something other than the ones Buddabing supplied...umm...sorry...I used the same ones  , since there has never been a large demand on it.

Anyways...check your mail defrag.

Just so people don't think I've been idle :D

Here's a little teaser to wet your juices.....

This is real time shoutcast browsing!! I'll say that again. This is real time shoutcast browsing!! The list of sites is all variables, paging will scrape from the site as necessary. Genres are in a category can can be refreshed from a setup screen. WORK IN PROGRESS - gimme a bit longer!!! There will be an option to refresh the current list every 5 mins or so. Still unsure if the shoutcast ban is still in place, but then this has the benefit of only really doing what you do on the website.

Next update should be in the plugin thread as I'll be ready for beta near the end of the week.

(open here if too wide - the picture that is - not you  )

I'm curious as to how you get shoutcast's 19 genre broken down to those individual classes?

Good work nonetheless....really, really looking forward to trying this out...thanks.

Have a look on the shoutcast site, on the right hand side there is a drop down - that's where I got it from.
