Who would use MediaPortal as TV viewer...

Postby lar282 on Sun Jul 17, 2005 5:21 pm

Who would use MediaPortal as TV viewer IF:

* Xlobby could talk to MP and be able to start it automatically if a recording was going to start. (MP does not need to be started)

* MP was stripped down and only the tv module existed

* One could minimize MP from within MP and make it return to xlobby

* One could start MP ,minimize, maximize or close it from within Xlobby

The release would involve a plugin for Xlobby plus a special build of MP.

Reason I'm asking is because if nobody is interested I wont release it cause I need to release the source code as well (alot of Mb)

I personally think that you should release it just to make the whole Xlobby package more complete. I would have used if it had network tv viewing.
But until then I will still use my current SageTV setup.

In my opinion Media Portal will be the greatest free PVR out there so I use that for watching analog TV.
I also have ordered a FireDTV C/CI for Watching Digital channels with Media Portal.
So for me is a plugin like this a welcome from heaven :)

One thing that concern me with the special stripped down version is how that will work in the future when new versions of MP comes.Hopefuly your plugin will work with full version of MP also

noop it wont. XL has to talk to MP and Mp wont let me if I dont modify it.

I dont modify alot so its not hard to update. the major change is the stripped down, so nothing else exists.

Will there eventually be a network TV option?

network option, check the MP homepage

HD, check the MP homepage...

I dont do anything with the program just stripp it from all the other modules plus make it talk to XL even though the program isn't running.plus start and stop it of cource(integrate)

There should be network version somewhere in the next releases (it was in the roadmap in the beginning).
They have to separate the frontend and the backend part for the recording first.
Mediaportal is a nice software far more advanced then Meedio but for me it is unusable unless they make the network part.

MP and XL

Postby carefreepastor on Fri Jul 29, 2005 3:17 am

I would use it. However, my lack of any ability to continue to update the XL version as MP evolves makes me a little less enthusiastic.

If the MP version ( 0.3) works for u, why update?
I will however update the mp version everytime the release a major udate.

I did release it so check the plugin section.
