xlobby @ the bar

Speak your mind

xlobby @ the bar

Postby billberet on Mon Oct 13, 2008 4:54 pm

hey,
i've been using xlobby around the house now and i have a touchscreen
"10.4 Desktop TFT LCD Monitor w Touch Screen" at the bar, i was wondering.

could someone make a drinks plugin. which goes out and grabs info on mixed drinks, etc.
all the info about a Drink, how it's made, where, etc. like the intheaters plugin, but with alcahol.
being Irish, i'm all about the Drinks!!!!
lol

My fav is Long Island Ice tea, so it would be great to go into Xlobby
click on the Drink Menu, click LI Ice Tea.
then all the ingredients will show, picture of the drink, where it origionated from, etc.
right now i have all that information in a drink 'bible' tell me everything i need to know about a drink, including it's history.
this makes me believe it also has to be online somewhere.

just an idea.

I was thinking it would be nice to have a recipe plugin for both new and old cooking & baking recipes.
I have a touchsceen in my kitchen..

I have seen a front-end system for a wine cellar that gave me the idea.

An easy way would be Xlobby/Girder on a system that has a parallel port, to a relay board that interfaces with all the valves. The database in xlobby (which would have to be manually built to start) would send messages to girder. Girder would turn on the appropriate parallel port number to turn on/off the valve for the proper mix. Unless you go by timing, I don't really know how to indicate the proper amount has been poured though.

Licking my chops just thinking about it...though, I don't think right now another system build will pass by the wifey too well.

how about we start small
we just do the menu system
click a drink and display all the ingredients.

if we do this piece by piece, the wifey won't notice !!!!!
that's how i sneek past my wife's security, lol

i did find databases with drinks online.
is there a converter that i can use to convert a database to the xlobby xml version.

say there is a sql version called mydrinks, and i am able to convert it to a xlobby xml database.
the coverart would be the drink picture.
now just as the InTheaters plugin, you can click on a coverart picture and get the details.
i would do the same thing, click the coverart to get the ingredients.

does this sound feasable?

If you are able to convert the sql database to xml, then it is absolutely feasible. Here is a link to a thread containing a plugin that apparently converts other variants of xml to an xml file that xlobby can handle (never used it myself). Assuming you can handle the sql>xml part, then it's just a matter of slogging away at the database.

sweet, thanks

i'm sure i'll figure it out
i'll run some of my xml parsers against the xlobby databases, this will show the structure and data in each element.
then i'll write a little script to duplicate those elements and write the data from a sql database.

now when i get the database finished, do i need a plugin to access the data, or can
i just reference it in a category?

sounds like a plan
:)

No, once the database has been created in xlobby, you just use the skin editor, clone a page similar to what you want (or create a new one from scratch), name a new category, and then link that category to your new database.

The following threads should get you pointed in the right direction:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1308
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4314&st=0&sk=t&sd=a (this relates to a TV show database, but includes a lot of instructions for cloning screens, creating categories, and linking databases)

Hope that helps. Once you do have your drink database created, be sure to serve it up for others to use

ha, that's great, i can add that.
anyone have ideas on getting an image for each drink?
that would be the icing on the cake.

ok i finished the database, i created 2 pages, one for the list, one for details.
now i'm working on creating a search, so you can filter the list.
when i'm done, i'll post it up if anyone wants it.
i'm using the heavymetal_t skin (best for touchscreens)
so the pages i create are for touchscreen, big buttons, easy to read.

yay, i finally get to contribute back.
