DVD/HiDef Players

Postby rhinoman on Mon Sep 17, 2007 9:00 am

I've been a long time user of Theatretek for playing my dvd rips and ts files via xlobby. I've recently got some hidef files in a .mkv wrapper and now need to start fiddling with extra codecs to make them play and start messing with graphs etc to string it together.

Wil the inbuilt Xlobby media player be able to deal with these unusual formats, if so how? WillI still need to buy codec's to use with it? Am I better off going to say "Zoomplayer" which walks you through getting the codec's right?

Cheers

Hiya Rhinoman,

I'm a devoted Zoomplayer user, but it's worth having a look at what they say on the mkv, H.264 codecs. Take a look here. I use ffdshow and the Haali Media Splitter to play mkv files. With those free codecs in place I can play them in windows media player. So I would guess Zoom is not required. I haven't tried with the pre-release xlobby as I am all set up with the free one, but there is no real reason why it wouldn't work.
