Got an idea, post it here

database editing in V2 until V3 is released

Postby lar282 on Sun Jan 27, 2008 7:15 pm

Hi Wes and Steven
Please make som changes to the way XL handles database changes when they are made from outside XL. Since all plugins that do this fail to work in the latest release. Since V3 is delayed I was wondering if u can make the changes to the V2

see post
http://www.xlobby.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6061
for more info

I just spoke with Steven about the plugins issue and he is going to fix it. We are expecting to make the last and final Ver 2.0 build by weeks end, then the Ver 3.0 release will be top priority until completed. More details will be posted in the news section.

Wes/Steven

Thanks for posting the final v2.0

Can you explain exactly what has been implemented to get the database editing/category refresh fixed? Bearing in mind that we are talking about non templated databases, that is databases that are manually created away from the standard xlobby templates that do no fall under the normal refresh routines.

I have tried (from code) adding to an existing, rewriting an existing, refreshing, resetting the category db and nothing is happening. I've also tried manually changing the file contents and calling a refresh from a test button - nothing.

Before Steven removed the code (and there were good reasons for removing it!) it would pick up on file changes to the database and refresh the category. I can't seem to find any change in behaviour from the last release. All that was really needed was a manual refresh that could be fired from an event - there was no real need for sniffing file changes (as I've mentioned before)

If anyone else in the meantime has got this working and I'm having a blonde moment let me know and I'll beat myself up for a while and stand sheepishly in the corner...... :D

Thanks,

Defrag

I will check with Steven. Sorry I did not post a more detailed list of everything we added or hopefully improved. The flew slowed me down yesterday and today, feeling better to go into the office tomorrow and jump back in.

Oh and Jay I will get to the Vista playback problem this week.

Glad you're feeling better Wes.
I'm planning to do a full reinstall with the 2.0 final. Can I assume that the Vista update will involve only the graph file? Otherwise, I'll wait.
Thanks again.

Initial testing here show that it works for me.
My plugin does this:
1:/ refresh to see what files are there (XL refresh)
2:/ take the changes and add information (DB sub entries) to the db entries
3: Save database

works

Steven is looking at his code again and needs some time to test some plugins to verify any real issues. Please allow him a little time here to respond back.

Thanks,
