Edited 01/20/05 ----- Check page 3 for updated version 4.1

This has been waaaay overdue, I don't even know how long its been since I've posted an update of my skin. I made some pretty big changes to it since the last version. There are too many to list, but the main idea was to make it more remote and touchscreen friendly at the same time. Remote users should notice how everything is left/right to go to the next column, and up/down to scroll through that current section. I haven't had a chance to go through the screens yet to check that the navigation works as it should, but for the most part should be ok.

So far I have mainly focused on the music screens. The main menu also is driven with a database now, so if you want to add/remove an option from it, it is very easy. Also one big change is, to jump say from the music section to the movies you need to click the green box in the upper left hand corner which will show a "jump to" menu.

Here's a quick rundown of new stuff:

Music:
Complete change, two main pages albums and playlist. Individual albums show on a new overlay.
The "now playing" screen is no longer accessed by clicking on the currently playing album, now just click on the "full screen" button in the lower left hand corner.
"Open" "Play" "Queue" are all now checkmarks instead of plain boxes (this just made more sense this way)
"Jump To" ... click the "A-Z" button and you will get a quick scrollable DB menu of letters to quickly jump to that letter for the first of that artists name.

Movies:
Now basically just one simple screen with an overlay for the specific movie. Pretty simple and easy

Pictures:
Not too much new here, just the new layout.

Weather:
New layout, and now uses the XoapWeather plugin

Games:
There is now a basic games screen for those who asked for it. It includes buttons and images for most common emulated systems.

PPC:
The ppc screens have been updated, but are somewhat in the middle of being revamped. That will have to wait till my next update. The music and movie pages are pretty much done, just need some good housecleaning.

Multizone:
Haven't tackled this yet, but definitley will soon, its at the top of my list.

I'm sure there are plenty of new things I forgot to mention, and
Let me know what you guys think and post any bugs/comments/requests..

Need help..

Postby Bill Lott on Thu Dec 23, 2004 5:07 am

I'm only getting a blank light blue screen - no orange buttons on the main menu.

800x600 Tried both default and experimental themes.

The screenshots LOOK GREAT - can't wait to try it on the touchscreen!

yes, we need the database for the mainmenu, and also for the ABC databases, in fact we need all databases used as menu.

Im just a newbie to this HTPC thing, but i have too much experience with carputing, so ive seen some skins in my day, and this is great!

One question: In my movies (and music for that matter) the cover art and descriptions are not showing up? There is a place for them - 2 movies per page, but they are not there.

Im really new to xlobby, so this might be a small setting i dont know about yet, but any help is much appreciated. Thanks again!

Problem with alphabet text not showing up

Postby Bill Lott on Fri Dec 24, 2004 11:12 pm

Jowaldo,

Sory to have started a new thread. I;ll let it die and puckup here.

I'm running both the c;ient and the server at 800 x 600 and the latest xLobby.exe

Thanks,,

jusatry: Thanks for the complement! About the coverart not showing up, how are you importing your music into xlobby, and where is the coverart stored in relation to the albums?

For example I have a simple folder structure like this

artist1/album1
artist1/album2
artist2/album1

And in each folder I have a image of the coverart in it, so when I import the albums, xlobby automatically imports the correct coverart too. If you don't have coverart already for any of the albums, you can just click the music note button on any of the music screens and there is an option to download cover art.

Bill:
Hmm that strange that the text isn't showing for you on certain buttons when you are running it at that resolution, cuz that is what I desinged my skin around. Could you give me more details about what screens and buttons exactly are having this problem? Also you could try opening up the skin editor and try making one of the problem buttons bigger, and see if the text eventually shows up.

Let me know what you find.

jowaldo:

the really frustrating thing is, my cover art shows up in the default skin!

I have my movies in this format:

movies/movie1/movie1.divx.avi
movies/movie2/movie2.divx.avi

and in each movie# folder, there is a file called "movie1 front-cover.jpg".

I havent tried cover art for music cause my mp3 collection is in such disarray, my head would explode. but im trying to get my 175+ movies in some sort of order so i can see their cover, read their info, and jump around relativly painlessly.

Thanks for the response, let me know what you think.

Thats really strange why the coverart wouldn't show up using my skin but will with the default one. Could you send me a copy of your movies.xml database file to mailto:jowaldo2k@hotmail.com ?

I'll take a look at that and see if maybe something is up with it....
