Xlobby & Home Automation

Postby CocoonTech.com on Mon May 03, 2004 12:52 pm

Hey guys!

I just learnt about XLobby.com, and as an ex myhtpc user (I am sure you can figure out why I no longer use it), I am very excited about this product. Has anyone ever thought about integrating this software with Home Automation software such as Homeseer, Hal and all the other big names? I personally run Homeseer, and would love to control my home automation setup through my TV. I currently run Windows Media Center 2004, but am planning on adding another htpc in my main bedroom, how is XLobby handling the TV? Is it more reliable than the TV plugin myHTPC used to come with? I noticed it uses xmltv, which is a good thing. Keep up the good work!

The main goal right now is to make xlobby very stable and improve its skin editing abilities and the plugin support.

xlobby and a tv dont mix to well together unless you download somes custom skin. Then there is no tvplugin yet to record shows...the tv stuff is just something I keep putting off because more important stuff comes up.

but as for integrating with some kind of home automation software...it will be 100% possible with the new plugin support as long as that software allows some kind of communication with it.

Yes, Homeseer has a built in ActiveX server, it's how I interface it with PHP, so that part works great. I believe HAL supports this too, so I guess there is some hope. What kind of plugin architecture will the software support? ActiveX? Thanks!

A Homeseer plug-in would ROCK... I would definitely move to XLobby if the Homeseer plug-in gave me full controls and ability to have real-time feedback from Homeseer (change images, text, etc)

I just took a look at homeseer and it looks like it has an interface for communication so I will see what I can do with it. I'll start a thread in the plugins section.

I'd love to have this functionality! A much better platform than others are currently offering.
