spdif out to analog plasma

Postby billberet on Mon Mar 30, 2009 3:56 pm

Hi all.
ok SPDIF is working great i have digital going out to my reciever.
I have all my audio, video going thru my GEFEN video matrix.

I'll simplify my issue,
if I hit source 1, the audio video goes to my downstairs tv and reciever (spdif gets converted, works great)
if i hit source 2, the audo video goes to my upstairs tv (no reciever, digital audio is lost because TV cannot decode SPDIF)

to remedy the situation, i was going to get a digital to analog converter as seen here

is this the best way to proceed.
i do not want to loose spdif audio.

Bill,

Note the device your looking at only accepts 2-channel digital audio only. Dolby 5.1 and other multichannel formats are not compatible.

Use this instead. We are working on having a piece of hardware like this soon. They forgot to add a digital loop jack so you will have to split the digital signal. You can use a component video splitter to do it just use one of the Y, Pb, Pr signal paths if you do not have access to a digital audio splitter. You may be able to use a simple RCA 'Y' cable it all depends on the termination load of each product and how it might effect the signal level. :D
