Winamp multizone question

Postby PiDD on Sat Mar 27, 2004 5:20 pm

I have the folowing directories..

c:\program files\winamp garage\
c:\program files\winamp\

two wnamp installs not a copy over.

Then I...
1. shut down all instances of winamp
2. start the winamp.exe located in winamp garage
3. brought up the preferences dialog
4. click "output" under the "plug-ins" branch
5. select your output plugin and click "configure"
6. click the down box next to "device" and select which sound card will be used for this zone
7. CLOSE WINAMP

and repeat for each zone right...

When I change the output plugin it changes it for BOTH copies!??

I made sure only one was running.

Any suggestions?

I did a "copy over".....didnt know you could do 2 installs....so maybe try just copying the whole directory then changing the settings.

damn looks like winamp has disabled the ability to give multiple copies different output devices :( All is not lost though....you just have to do a couple of extra steps to get it working.

Winamp is somehow storing the selected device for a specific output plugin...lets say you use the output plugin "out_ds.dll"...well anytime you change that plugins decive the change will be global to all other winamps. So we can arround this problem by simply renaming the "out_ds.dll" to "out_ds2.dll" for zone2 and "out_ds3.dll" ect...for each zones winamp installation....you then load up your zone....configure winamp to use the new "out_ds2.dll" plugin...set the device...close winamp to save changes...and your done....each winamp can use its own device again.

I have tested this and it does seem to work.
