upgrade to Power DVD 9

Postby Jay on Sat Dec 19, 2009 12:16 am

I need to upgrade to the current Power DVD Ultra to play HD DVD discs. Will the current Ver 7 graph file work with XL?
TIA

Jay,

The xLobby internal media player will only play the current Mpeg2 DVD's. If you want to play HD DVD's you will need to launch an external player provided all your hardware meets the requirements, like Power DVD ultra.

I do use an external player for HD DVDs. I was only wondering whether Power DVD 9 might require a change in the graph file.

Having said that, I was able to stay with ver 7 after all - except I lost audio on some home movies after I re-installed Ultra.
But that's another issue I'm looking into.

Thanks Wes.

As I understand it PowerDVD 9 will only play Blu-Ray and not HD-DVD. To continue to play HD-DVD's you will need either an earlier verison of PowerDVD such as ver 7 or an alternative player like Arcsoft TotalMedia Theatre 3 Platinum.

That's interesting. I bought a lot of HD DVDs a big discounts when they lost the war to Blu-ray.
Thanks for the heads up.

Jay, I swiched to ArcSoft TMT3 about a year ago and have never looked back. Like you I could not pass up the HDDVD prices and bought a bunch. TMT3 plays everything well and it is already integrated with XL. I got tired of maintaining PDVD 7 and 9. One of the 9 updates removed 7. THT3 also has a pretty good upscaler for DVD's called simhd.

Interesting Larry.
I just visited their site.
2 questions - which ver do you use and where is the XL integration?

Check out this link: http://xlobby.com/news/2009/06/13/new-xlobby-v3-build-30916326/ The key is to use the Microsoft Mediacenter version that comes with the Total Media Theater 3 version. I changed some things because I store my discs as .iso's in directory structures like: Movie\dvd\<title> or Movie\HDDVD\<title> and store the format in the movies db. Then I launch a custom overlay while the movie is mounted in daemon tools lite.
