multizone Question

Postby lar282 on Tue Feb 17, 2009 3:08 pm

If I have a client connected to server. I set zone 1 and play some tracks on the client, set zone 2 and play some tracks on server.

Can I press Sync All and expect the music to be the same in both zones? Or does that only work when having two soundcards in one server?
if none of the above is true, can somebosy please explain what synch does?

(so many questions, so few anwers.................)

for me, i have multiple sound cards (1 onboard, 2 cards)
when i press sync, all the zones get the current song being played.
it shouldn't matter how many sound cards you have as long as the zones are set up correctly and can play independently of each other.

Same here. Cards/zones will sync.

Just don't push that party button on the control overlay unless you know what it does (LOL)

I understand that sync works on ONE server with alot of zones, but have u guys tried it with
one zone on server
one zone on client
and then sync all?

Does it only work with internal player?
Does it work with one zone internal one foobar?
works with 2 foobar?
do I need to open more ports in the firewall for sync to work or does it all go through 8000?

i thought sync all works on one server, not to client as well
with my client in mimic mode, i have 1 zone extra on my Q1. that is the q1 onboard speakers.
so server has 3 zones, and my client has 4 zones.
when i hit sync all, the server sync's all the zones on the server, nothing happens to the client.
i always thought this was the correct behavior, because of the mimic mode.

mimic mode does nothing for playing audio. mimic mode just makes the server follow the clients screen. it does not follow audio zones or video. For that u need to enable the checkbox server event.
one must not mix the mimic mode up with the functionality of the client/server funct, its just one function in the entity

Spoke to Steven and I will put his words here.

-regarding synching a zone on a client zone with a server zone, that has been disabled for now again not a lot of installers use that feature so we havent had time to fix it (it was very unstable and cpu
intensive)

Testing shows that it is not disabled cause it crashes the client when executing the sync all command. Hopefully some installers will ask for the feature so it will be fixed.
