What about an IR Database?

Postby sdumas on Tue Jul 04, 2006 4:53 pm

Here is an idea.

What about a place where we could "drop" our IR codes files so we can all share them.

This way we could have a LARGE collections of devices and their IR codes therefore simplifying integration for lots of people.

If we can have an area on xlobby.com to upload those files it would be great.

I could supply codes for a Denon 3802, Laserdisc Player Pioneer CLD-59, a Panasonic VCR, an ExpressVU 6000 receiver and a few others.

What do you think?

And who could implement the area?

Sounds like a great idea!!! We could also share our discrete IR codes that we had to hunt down...this would save everyone tons of time.

Yeah That's a great idea, espcially for xlobby specific code format. I usually head on over to remotecentral.com and snag proto format codes from there. Quite a little database as well.

Or even just a sub forum where threads can be posted for specific devices, and they can just be posted in /code brackets..

I know most are using usirt, but some of us use Global Cache. Will this format work for both?

For the USBUIRT (Pronto codes) this already exists at Remote Central here: http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/fi ... rea=pronto

Yup... Just type in "pronto" in the format box.
If it doesn't work out of the gate, raise the first number to 2 then 3 etc until it does. Usually a setting of 2 works well but if you can get away with 1 go for it.

OK, I'm confused... (not hard really...)

Remote Central has a bunch of CCF files. How do you get a CCF file into Xlobby?

If we extract the IR codes with a CCF editor, do we still have to take each and every single code and cut and paste into Xlobby? then type pronto for each of them?

If that is the case, I still would like to see a "Xlobby" IR database we can share. Building for each devices one code at a time would be time consuming and sharing, again, would be a good thing.

Unless there is an easy way to convert a CCF file to Xlobby.

You don't use the ccf files. What you do is go to the link that hjackson provided http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/files/rcfiles.cgi?area=pronto

Then the last entry is Discrete Infrared Hex Code. If you click into that section you will be presented with a list of manufacturers, followed by devices. Once you click into the device you would like codes for, you will see a list of available Discrete hex codes which you can then paste into XL and then assign using "pronto' format.

Personally I like the idea of starting a IR database here which would already be formatted in an .xml database for XL. This would save us from having to upload each and every IR command separately to remotecentral.com.

Maybe we just don't have enough users here to justify it??

It's a good idea. Perhaps there would be some way for Steven then to integrate it into the "Internet List" section of the IR plugin.
The only downside of this is that having a Device's ENTIRE library can get bulky, especially when sometime you're only only dealing with a few commands and you have to wade through them all to find the one that you're looking for.

How would you edit the submissions though to add remove or fix when they are all clumped in an XML. Reminds me of the CCF's that you had to get the WHOLE thing, and then strip out what you wanted (This was before remote central put up their Discrete IR section)
