Different Zones on Different Extended Desktops?

Postby craig on Thu Mar 10, 2005 2:27 am

I just started playing with XLobby and was wondering if it is possible to control different audio zones with XLobby showing on multiple extended desktops? I see where you can set the monitor the main program is displayed on but I was wondering about the client/server mode. Would it be possible to run multiple clients on the server itself? Thanks.

I guess it would be possible, but right now I only allow one instance of xlobby to be loaded....so you wouldnt be able to load multiple instances. You could get away with one thin client....now that I think of it....you might be able to do multiple thin clients...but I dont think I have an option to specify the x,y position of the client.

Well, this sounds quite promising. I should be able to just move the client windows to the correct desktops with Girder but I will have to see if control of the individual instances works out. Thanks.

I've tried this - you can have xlobby and a client running on the same machine (I have not tried multiple clients), but what happens is the windows start bar pops up on xlobby each time you try to access something within the client. In my application I have a plasma display and a touchscreen running off the same computer - obvously it's not ideal to have the windows task bar poping up each time I use the touchscreen!

I think something programming-wise would need to be done to allow these to peacefully coexist on the same machine.... Would love to see a fix, especially now that the multi-zone stuff is really going to be taking off. With a single maudio 4-10 card and a few pci video cards, you could run an entire whole-house touchscreen music server!
