Does anyone use xlobbysd.exe client?

Speak your mind

Does anyone use xlobbysd.exe client?

Postby Cooch on Tue Dec 28, 2004 10:21 pm

I have all sorts of trouble with the client. It seems to not recognize the servers.txt file (yes I have read the docs and it is all setup correctly.)

So before I go nuts,
Is anyone actually using the thin client on win32?
Does it work?
Which version are you running (date?)

I am having so much trouble with the client I spent today messing with girder commands trying to get the full version to play dvd's on a different computer.

HELP! :)

the client (xlobby2sd.exe) is just a pocket pc app, not for win32 (xp, 2000, 98 etc)

If you want to use the networking features of xlobby on separate regular ol' windows machines, just use the xlobby2.exe on all the machines. Just hit f2 on any of them and go to the xnet tab...

You sure?

The client server doc says it's for both.

I understand about using xnet for the full client for audio but using the full client video is played on the client not on the server.

I'm very confused

I use the client on a tablet PC running XP Pro. It works for me. Most problems that I had were on my end (ie. improper setup), though it can be slow in certain situations even when setup correctly.
What files did you download to your PC client? Does it even connect to the server?

xlobbysd.exe (7/21/2004 or 9/22/2004 version)
servers.txt

Both in the same directory.

Yes it connects.
It connects on whatever screen it was left on, and changing the quaity has no affect which leads me to believe the servers.txt file is not working.

This is on a wired 100mb lan both machines 1+ ghz and 512mb

Using jowaldo's new skin it doesn't respond at all. Using the heavymetal skin it responds too slowly to be usable.

A full client that controls the server would be ideal. I wonder how hard it would be to extend xnet to control the server completely. Where you can not only select music zones from a client but also where video will be played.

Are the resolutions on both PC's the same? A resolution mismatch had slowed down my client/server interaction with the HeavyMetal skin (but not with the default skin).
For a free program to control the Server PC (not just Xlobby on the Server) you can use what I use, UltraVNC ( http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/ ). This allows me to get remote desktop control of my server PC just by clicking a desktop icon.
Good luck.

I read the thread about the resolution mismatch. The default resolutions are not the same but I am "trying" to set them to be the same for xlobby by adding the
resolution:1024x768
line to the servers.txt file but it has no effect. The client opens at the default desktop size no matter what the resolution line says.

The thing that kills this for me is I can't even get this to work on 2 wired 100mb 1ghz+ machines never mind a wireless tablet.

I am very familar with vnc/remote desktop but that kind of kills the client server features of xlobby :)

That is right, that method will not have any effect. The client screens themselves, need to be formatted in the resolution of your client PC. So if your server PC is 1280x720 and your client is 1024x768, you will need seperate screens in that resolution for your client. This is why the pocketPC screens are created in a different size than the PC screens. Baddabing has already created a set of client skins for this very reason. They are in 1024x768 format. Hopefully your client is in that resolution, if it isn't, then you can modify the skins yourself on your client PC then transfer them over to the server PC's Xlobby folder.
Good Luck.

We are on the same page I am just not saying it right.

The server screens are 1024x768 and I am trying to run them in 1024x768 on the client.

Hmmm, can you list the settings in your servers.txt file? I had to drop the refresh rate settings for my client because it caused my DVD playback to stutter (it used too much of the server PC's CPU useage).

Code: Select all
server:10.1.102.154
screen:menu
resolution:1024x768
quality:50%

Standard stuff.

I have temporarily scrapped the idea of using the client for now.

I am trying to setup XL so I can run the full client on my media server (not the htpc) and have it send commands to the htpc through girder. It is going well I am just stuck on offline movies. I need to do some more fiddeling before i have a concrete question though.

Thanks,

Don

If you don't mind me asking which skin do you run?
What resolution on your Progear?

I use the HeavyMetal skin. My server PC (P4 2.4 Ghz, 1GB memory) is running at 1280x720. My Progear client is 1024x768 (memory and speed of a slide ruler!). The connection is via a 802.11b wireless network. Screen reaction time is .5 to 2 seconds. The settings on the server.txt file is this:

server:192.168.1.106
screen:PCmenu
resolution:1024x768
quality:80%
zone:1

Later!
