Is there anything else that would the same job, maybe a little more expensive, and a little more available?

NAD 906 or 916 6ch amps - both discontinued but you can find good deals on ebay every-so-often
Rotel RB976 - same as above

Niles SI-1230

Sonance Sonamp 1230 - http://www.sonance.com/products/electronics/detail/229

Sonance DAB-1 - http://www.sonance.com/products/electronics/detail/84 (Bill Lott uses this with great success, check out his homepade...link found in his forum threads)

Outdoor Speaker Depot - http://www.outdoorspeakerdepot.com/mds6a.html - I've dealt with them for some outdoor speakers. Great company...quick shipping...reasonable pricing. Actually the MDS-6A is a Channelplus product.

Any 6 or 12 channel amps. Even a 4ch or more car amp would work...you just have to figure out how to power it....hmm, old computer supplies coupled together would do the trick. You just want to make sure that you have the same number of inputs as outputs. So if your amp is a 6channel amp, you will want to have 6 independant inputs from your soundcard(s), and let xlobby be the source (if using a setup similar to mine). Or to a matrix switch in which xlobby can control, and have all your sources connected to the matix swith input. This is all assuming that you want these amps for multi-zoning and want to use xlobby...of course. :D

What type of cable do I need to use to connect the audio pod to the main amp? I lost the original cable. Right now I'm using a regular telephone cable and it works but the audio pod green led won't light up.

If you are talking about the small pre-amp that comes with the amp...I remember a conversation that the LED indicator light doesn't work on any of them. The phone cable RJ11 is the correct way to connect the two components.
