Network speed

I got to wondering, what is the minimum network speed needed in order to have smooth play back of a DVD off a network share? I know that it is not possible over a 802.11b network, but I hope that a 100mbs connection will do it.

one pc can watch over an 802.11g link, two causes serious stuttering ( and whining from the kids! )

Here's a neato I did.

I streamed a DVD to my laptop from the server (54mbps 802.11g) while copying data from the HTPC to the server (100mbps, same switch). Not a glitch. The server is running a linux software raid 5 across 4 wd2000jbs.

Weeee!

Well basically I just run Samba on the server and let the client use whatever DVD player it wants. I've been using Zoomplayer with WinDVD's codecs, but don't know if that's where I'll stay.

I guess that you can't techincally call that "streaming" the media, but oh well. Have they got a special word for it? ;)
