Rip CD from XLoobby

Postby Arthur on Sun Dec 28, 2003 9:15 pm

Hello,

On the forum for myHTPC I found a nice way to rip a CD from the XLobby enviroment. Hold your horses, it isn't perfect. The original post can be found here (http://myhtpc.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3993)

You will need windows media player 9 (free download --> http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download)

Create a new button in xlobby. Copy this text into the "Extrenal Apps" tab

c:\program files\windows media player\wmplayer.exe /prefetch:3 /Task:CDAudio /RipAudioCD "E:"

Where E: is my CD drive

- You can preset your preferences (file location etc.) in media player
- You might have to turn off the auto-play mode for your CD.

Some disadvanteges:
- It's microsoft... :?
- Your forced to use the wma format. MP3 is possible if you buy a plugin $9,95), but LAME is not available. :(
- Ape format not available :(
- The windows media player gets in front of XLobby (Which I don't like. I want XLobby to be on top always) :(

Advantages:
- It's quite fast, which suprises me, as I use an old CD player in my HTPC. (No need yet for DVD :) )
- Winamp 5 can handle the wma format, you will have to tell Xlobby the wma format should also be used.

Hope someone can use this info.

As I didn't like the wmp, I've now swithed to eac. I configured it the way I want and by using the next command line it starts ripping:
C:\Program Files\EAC\EAC.exe -extractmp3 -close
I also made a second folder for eac, same options, only it rips in burst mode (faster). I've added a second button:
C:\Program Files\EAC_burst\EAC.exe -extractmp3 -close
After the CD has been ripped, eac will terminate
EAC can rip directly to ape format. You should select the ape format on the wave format tab. Don't use an external program for compression

A last remark, I updated my aspi files as recommended at page:
http://www.rivarilu.demon.nl/eac/total.htm#aspi_en
It does increase ripping speed.

tried searching the forums for this, but sometimes faster just to *bump* an old one.

I have posted on winamp to find out the cmd line arguments for cd ripping via winamp for mp3 (i have pro version)

I am going to create a cd ripping button in xlobby colby skin, unless this has already been incorp'd into XL.

If not, I'll post how to do it for the pro version of winamp.
