Set button for IR Plugin?

What is the use of the "set" button in the IR plugin screen and when are you supposed to "set" it.

It seems that is needs to be set in order to accept a proper trigger.

I did not get how it works actually. (it works, but at this point it was guesswork at best)

It doesn't refresh the set value immediately when you press on it. So, I don't know if it has been "set" or not.

My "method" for now is:
I press "new"
I give my IR command a name (ex. up)
I press "Set"
I press "learn" (then learn the code)
I press "Set" again (just in case)

I still can't see the set value at that point. If I close the menu and bring it up again, there is a value in there, and I have no clue as to where that value is coming from. It doesn't match the IR code. So, what is it?

you should do this

I press a button on my remote control to set its ID

Using the "set" command is for setting an ID to a button a remote control so I know what button you pressed.
