Artist as top level in music database

Got an idea, post it here

Artist as top level in music database

Postby Arthur on Wed May 12, 2004 8:45 pm

A new database import utility which creates a database in which the artist is the top level in stead of artist-album as top level.
At this moment this can be done by metamasks however, the metamask will store the information at th elowest level (track-level) in the database. It is not always possible to access this information.
The screens shown by cavitycr33p in post:

can't be made by using Xlobby (AFAIK) :(

Why not throw in Xpath

A more general approach would be to add support for a query language like XPath. Then you could extract whatever info you need and also sort and filter in all possible ways. The syntax is really easy as well.

This request is getting more support each day. Please implement a database which can handle 3 levels (at least) like:
artist > album > track
or
genre > artist > album > track

The current:
artist-album > track is not sufficient, can be read in those posts:

I'm all for this too. It almost works now!

Would be nice if you could use the ID3 info in combination with meta masks/containers too.

i will add these types of view when I get around to it, but you can already do someting similar with a thumbnail filter view like below.

Steven,

Bad picture post - I know people will see the 2 Aerosmith albums and say that it does not work.

NOTICE: Aerosmith is spelt different to AeroSmith - This is why it shows twice.

Later
Simon.

PS Time to check your tags?

How would one enable this thumbnail view? Would it solve my need for a hierarchical view (in my other thread ?

yah I know but I'm too busy programming and it really doesnt bother me :)

Steven, please give us more info on this thumbnail view, and please do add this in the next release.

Yah I will add the hierarchical views as options in the import section but in the mean time all you have to do is edit the filter overlay, all you do is open the skineditor and change the format for the list to thumbnails. I know some people arent familiar with the skineditor, so I would suggest just waiting in that case until I add the new import options.

Can you give us the exact details of what to change? If it was that easy, I figure that the 100 or so people who have been trying to get this to work would have found it.

Please let us know.
