Streaming MPEG2

Postby Ray on Mon Nov 29, 2004 6:31 pm

Hi All,
Anyone doing some work on streaming MPEG2 files from a HTPC to a TV over Cat 5 or ethernet?? I want to create a single digital jukebox containing all my MP3's and DVD/movies. Streaming audio is no problem but what about video??
Thanks!!

not sure if your looking for something to do this, or someone that has actually done it. I know there are devices that can do this. I'm not recommending you buy this to do it, just telling you they exist...and I have no experience what so ever with them.

If your tv can handle vga or dvi, then built your self a vga to cat 5 wire. I run my hole house this way. up to 20 meters over cat 5.

HD-15 pin Cat 5 color
-------------------------
1. Red + Orange
2. Green + Green
3. Blue + Blue
4.
5.
6. Red - (aka GND) Orange stripe
7. Green - (GND) Green stripe
8. Blue - (GND) Blue stripe
9.
10. Ground (GND) shield wire.
11.
12.
13. H sync Brown
14. V sync Brown stripe
15.

Colour dosent matter as long as nr 1 and 6 are the ones that are twisted toghter, same goes for nr2 and 7, and 3 and 8
I have splitt the shiled and solderd one bit to nr 10 and one on the metal shield. Perfect result!
Even works over patchboxes, i use one of these:

I also patch my sound, phone,ir over that one.

If you donĀ“t like the soldering iron you could look here:
