PPC and Xlobby, ad hoc

PPC and Xlobby, ad hoc

Maybe a newb question, sorry for that :)

Is it possible to use a PDA to control Xlobby by using an ad hoc connection ?
Don't want to buy an AP just for this.

I tried it but I can't get XP to communicate with the PDA (or vice versa).
The problem seem to be that the XP machine doesn't bring the wireless adapter up.
So the PDA can't find the network since the XP machine doesn't "up" the adapter (the adapter is configured but it's like you unplug the cable on a normal NW-card).
I can't get Xlobby to use the wifi adapters ip-address either since it's not listed.

Anyone got any ideas, or is the only solution to get an AP ?

I managed to get this working, but had tons of trouble with
XP getting confused about having two network adapters (1 wireless
and 1 wired). The buggy Linksys drivers and controlling software didn't
help either. I just couldn't get a reliable connection. This wasn't
an Xlobby problem, I was successfuly in controlling Xlobby in this
manner, is was just extremely flaky.

I bought a .11b AP and everything works beautifully now.

Ok, to bad, would have hoped to skip all the hassle with an AP and security.
Thx for the answer though.

related to AP security, this is what I do. Turn on mac address filtering so that only my wifi devices can use the AP...works great. Yah people can packet sniff, but if your just controlling xlobby with your pda big deal.
