xmltv.xml file

Postby homepc on Thu Mar 29, 2007 10:12 pm

How do I use a xmltv.xml file that I downloaded using xmltv.exe in the epg? If I just place the xmltv.xml file in the xltv folder and startup xlobby, I get an error message. Does the file need something do to it before it can used in the epg?

thanks

Open the xml in IE or another browser, it should open,, if not, the file is corrupted or is missing the dtd

Im not sure what folder it should be in actually or what format. How can I get my xmltv.xml listing in the right format?

And also how does the dtd file get created?

This is the last thing I need to get working, but it is also the most important for me.

thanks

1: Check format in IE. No errors= all ok
2: file should be placed in xlobby\xmltv folder if u want Xlobby to show your EPG. Name the file tvguide.xml
3: Normaly u don't need the dtd (at least I don't!)

badubo/lar282,

Thank you both for helping me. Yes, I can open the xmltv.xml file in IE with out error. I put the xmltv.xml file into the xlobby\xmltv folder and renamed it to tvguide.xml. When I startup my xlobby, I receive the following error:

System.InvalidOperationException: <Envelope xmlns='http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/'> was not expected.
at Microsoft.Xml.Serialization.GeneratedAssembly.XmlSerializationReadertv.Read28_tv()

Do you know what this means?

thanks

lar282, thanks.....here is what I noticed:

your file is only 1.2mb. My file is 8.5mb.....seems like a big differance...

I did not get an error loading your file, I do with mine.

Also, looking at your file in IE, the first line says:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?>

Mine the first line says:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>

Could the encoding be the issue?

thanks

I have no problems loading over 18mb file with utf-8 encoding. One more thing you may want check is start and stop times in your programs - if you're using "UTC" instead of time zone (like -0600) you may want to try and re-run your config for xmltv.exe and set time zone.

Here is what I do:
Open command prompt.
To configure xmltv (location is c:\xmltv\xmltv.exe):
Code: Select all
c:\xmltv\xmltv.exe tv_grab_na_dd --configure --config-file=antena.dat --dd-data=dd.xml

You will need to answer few questions like your timezone and user + password

To download epg:
Code: Select all
C:\xmltv\xmltv.exe tv_grab_na_dd --days 13 --output=antena.xml --config-file=antena.dat --dd-data=dd.xml

You can change your output file to xmltv.xml or whatever you want - xlobby doesn't care about the name.
Why don't you post your file, so we can take a look at and see what may be wrong with it.

Art,

Perfect!! I'm not sure what I was doing wrong, but when I used your method with my information, it worked perfectly!! I now have an EPG!!

Another question though......

When I'm looking through the epg on my xlobby screen, I find a station that I want to watch, but when I click on it, nothing happens. I thought I had the screen setup correctly, but I thought that when I click on a program to watch, it would launch my ktv to watch it. Am I missing something again?

thanks

EPG in xlobby will not do anything on its own, you will need some kind of a plug-in for your card/software. I use MyHD, so I'm not sure how to use ktv and what plug-in can be used with it (I think xltv); you may want to post this question in the support thread for that plug-in.

Art,

Thanks again for the info. I have configured the xltv plugin, but I cant get it to work. I'll look further online for information abou that plugin. By the way, what other plugins are their to ues? You mentioned that you use MYHD. Where did you get the plugin for that?

Thanks
