DVD Changer control?

Postby Seppey on Mon Nov 10, 2003 12:19 pm

This may sound crazy, but is there a way to have Xlobby control a DVD changer??? I have a Sony CD changer that I was able to control with some software from Escient. I just thought that with a couple of 300 disk changers that you control with Xlobby would give you unlimited video without any compreamise in video or audio. This may already be able to be done in Xlobby and I just may not know how....Remember I am still very new at this  By the way Xlobby is simply amazing....Keep it up...

This may or may not help, but it has real potential

you said you have a sony changer, but that link is for kenwood? and it wont let me download it since I dont have a kenwood changer :(

but if you can find some type of command line program that would work with something like this....

c:\changer.exe /changer:1 /disc:200 /play

then we could probably work something out.

 OPPS! I messed that up pretty good.... Anyway here are the links to the changer and the controller. Now keep in mind I did not purchase the DVD controller yet so I have no idea the concept behind it. I don't want to waste your time so please do not spend to much of your time on it, I just found this interesting. First I will post the link for my changer just so that you get an idea of what I am talking about

Now below is the link for the controller. One of the items I founf interesting is that you can also control and other IR devices from your computer which would be kinda cool for motorized curtins / projector screens, etc...

As you probably figured i am a gadget junkie....Anyway I deeply appreciate your efforts in creating a amazin product

RS232

If it has RS232, then you could accomplish it with girder. Just need to be able to pass the disc number as a parameter to a girder command you have set up.

Sony DVP-CX875P 301 Disc Progresssive DVD Changer
Can get it as cheap as US$470.

Unfortunately only available in US, Im in Australia....
Would love to import one at some stage.

This unit works with other (commercial = evil) htpc software.

Not sure if it has RS232, dont know how they control it.
One option is to get an Infrared Unit, then you just learn the codes into the computer and shoot them out for each disc.

E.g. You keep the girder command sequence in the movies.XML file so a disc would have the commands (Disc Button) (1 buttton) (0 button) (4 button) for disc 104

Should work.

Well I broke down and purchased a Slink-e. As soon as I recieve it i will let you know what it is all about. as far as controling it from Xlobby thats a different story. I have about 250 DVD's so if this works it will really simplify everything
