0000787: 5 min temp writer, keeps local drives awake

Postby lar282 on Mon Feb 08, 2010 7:52 am

Hi
I just saw this in the mantis area. Does this mean that the harddrives never goes to sleep? If so I think that is a really bad idea. Both for the environment, electrical bill and the hardrives lifetime.
Is it an option so we can disable it. I want my hardrives to spin down if nobody is using the system.

Thank u Steven. Now I am almost happy. I will be happy when the client of mine works again -:)
Will u look at that issue again or did u give up? U saw that it works when nr of files are below a certain number?

hi, the 'drives staying awake' feature seems to be working well for me. I no longer have to send a WOL command to the file server.

I now leave my file server on with my hard drives set to never enter sleep mode. I also have my file server set to standby after 1 min. This means that after my xlobby client goes to sleep (when I press my 'Turn Off' button in Xlobby) then my server follows 1 min latter.

My client still does not enter sleep mode when Xlobby is loaded unless I specifically tell it to.....but at least pictures / movies can now be watched without issue on the server.

thanks
