"This Alpha has Expired error" on new download

Postby ivb on Fri Apr 30, 2004 9:24 pm

Hi all. Longtime myHTPC user, finally curious about xlobby, decided to try it out.

Downloaded onto my newest HTPC client, worked once. Did some other stuff [download patches/etc], now everytime I try to boot up I get "This alpha has expired , please upgrade to the latest version".

I tried re-installing, and also re-downloading & re-installing, with no love.

Any ideas?

Postby e268 on Fri Apr 30, 2004 9:36 pm

I am newbie. Went to download alpha 40.1, unzipped, installed Microsoft .NET Framework, and executed X... It came back with the same problem that this alpha has expired...etc. Can any one help please. Thanks.

Thanks. Will this one expire some time in the future?

I will have to defer to steven or someone more experienced than me as I'm still a newbie to xlobby as to whether it will expire. However, steven does an excellent job of releasing prerelease exes and bug fix exes. He will post in the annoucements when a new release is available.

BTW, welcome to xlobby!! As a past myHTPC user, you will be very impressed with xlobby. Some learning curve with skins but there has been some recent docs to help out with that. Don't be scared off by the default skin -- no offense steven! :) He spends most of his time coding features and adds the functionality to the default skin as examples how to use. Check out the Skins forum and download some of the other users skins to use or examples for your own.

Thanks. It runs on my old WINNT 4 sp 6a machine (very slow since it is P2 with 64 MB ram). I cannot make it run on my new XP Home machine. I found out that Microsoft .NET Framework requires XP Pro. Can you confirm this please. Thanks.

Sorry ivb, did not mean to steal your thread.

nope this one wont expire, I only add expiry code to versions that are buggy....40.1 was pretty buggy and I thought I would have 40.2 out by now. Most people dont ever notice the expiry code because they stay up to date. But from now on it will probably be gone from major releases since its pretty stable now. Sorry for the confusion about that but at least you did the right thing and found the forum :)

I run on XP Home also with no problems. Just go the Windows Update and it will list .NET as an update to install.
