What does Media Centre 11 need so I can replace Winamp?

Hi,

I want to replace Winamp with J Rivers Media Centre 11.

The reason is that it can talk to my LCD wall panels and update the screen with the track info and the buttons effect the playlist too.

What does MC11 need so XL can talk to it in the same way as it does to Winamp?

Thanks,

Simon.

Hi edgley,

Both Winamp and Foobar will send track info to an LCD/VFD/OSD if you
use Girder http://www.promixis.com and the LCD and DVDSpy
plugins for Girder.

MC11 is a full-fledged front end, like XL, which happens to have an
integrated media player. It seems odd to me to use it just as a
media player.

I'm guessing supporting a new media player in XL requires a
sizeable amount of work for Steven.

not to mention the overhead of MC. Winamp and foobar are much "lighter" for simply playing music

I should explain more.

The panels are part of the Russound CAV6.6

They connect to the amp, which has a serial port for connection to a PC.

There is a whole load of RS-232 protocols understood by the amp, which then can feed the data to the panels.

Some one has written a plugin for MC11. I think that it is less work to change the player in XL than try to configure winamp for RS-232.
