Insteon powerlinc controller which one?

Postby larryep on Wed Mar 30, 2011 12:16 pm

Hello

Which powerlinc controller works with the lighting service in xlobby?
I tried my PLC ( Item# 2414U) but had no luck with it. Should I purchase the newer PowerLinc Modem - INSTEON USB Interface (Dual-Band) Item# 2413U.

thank you

The 2414U will work but it sometimes locks up or can become unstable. The 2413U is more reliable and should work well.

See this for guidelines using insteon technology. http://xlobby.com/news/2009/09/01/xlobby-insteon-setup-facts-and-information/

Wesblack,

thank you for the quick reply. I will give the newer PLC controller a try.
does the houselinc software, the first release, interfere with the xlobbylighting service? Can running both at the same time, become problematic?

hello

i had my insteon devices working for about 3 months but the past 2 weeks the service is not working. Not sure why.
the xlobby lighting service just shows yellow dots. What port should the PLM be on?
none?
usb?
com1?
com4?
my xlobby app. in services shows port 9000 when I click on lighting service.
one more thing, I am not getting a cpu reading in xlobby any more also. :?

thank you

larryep, the PLM is a com port. The old PLC is a true USB device, the new one's just have a built in usb to serial controller, so when you plug it in I should have asked for a usb to serial port driver depending on the windows version.

Select the com port from the drop down. Close the settings box. Close the app and restart it. If it doesn't connect just change the com port again. The actual "test" button doesn't work so ignore that. If it's the USB model it's probably Com4.

Once you have the right com port your devices should have a green icon next to them.

I'll add that the lighting app is far from the easiest thing to use right now, I usually always have to login to help an installer set it up, it will become part of xlobby itself within the month if everything goes according to plan. In fact I plan on moving all service apps into xlobby to make them easier to use.

I've never used their 2413U, let me know if that's the one you are using, hopefully they didn't change the protocol again.
