mce remote and 3:rd party applications

Postby lar282 on Thu Jun 18, 2009 7:04 am

Hi
I never got rid of girder and I am wondering what would happen if I use the built in support for mce remote in XL and then launch another application, mediaportalTV. Would XL still recieve IR signals from the remote or does it do that only when XL is TopMost on the screen?
Trying to figure out if I can get rid of girder. Anyone have this scenario on their rigs?

Isn't anyone using a remote and using 3:rd party applications at all?

i can vouch for usb uirt

i am running it with 3 zones without any issues. i would rather have 232, but my cable boxes are IR only.
i am very happy with the performance as well, before i even release the button, the ir has already been blasted.
the plugin runs great.

that's funny... the only component I have in my system that uses IR is my cable box too.
Love the uirt as well.

Although I would much prefer using all RS-232 as well.

Well if u use usbuirt what happens when u start another application. Will Xlobby still control that application or what?

its probably a bit different with uirt...

with uirt i am sending windows messages / simulating keystrokes whenever i get a button press from the remote.

its up to me to decide where i send it.

i use eventghost to route messages to the correct app.

for me, the default is to send it to xlobby, then i use xremote to ay th action pdig on the screeen its on.

if i have mpclassic running i send pause play etc to that instead of xlobby (via event ghost

Is anyone using Xlobby and a remote control WITHOUT another

Postby lar282 on Sun Jun 21, 2009 5:47 pm

Let me refraise my question

Is anyone using Xlobby and a remote control WITHOUT another remote application like eventghost, girder etc AND is using a thirdparty application like sage, mediaportal etc.

What happens if Xlobby if NOT topmost when u press a key on the remote? Does XL respond or deos it only respond when XL is on top?

Regards

Look in the current xLobby V3 build under triggers, xLobby usbuirt remote, xlobby remote navup, navdown, etc. for how to use the USB-UIRT to communicate with other programs.

I must be fraising the question wrong:
What happens if Xlobby if NOT topmost when u press a key on the remote? Does XL respond or does it only respond when XL is on top?

I guess I have to pull the remote from my reall Xlobby and plug it in to the test rig and see what happens.

Thanks anyway

i think the answer is most of us don't know :)

Does an MCE remote simply simulate keystrokes? if so unless you have had to enter a window title/class name some where i guess they will go to whatever has focus.

Not answering you question, but still trying to be helpful :) why not just stick event ghost on then you can guarantee what will happen?

Its got an MCE plugin (not that i use it), its free and its very easy to pick up and use (unlike girder), also i have been running it for ~year and i haven't had one glitch with the software.

It was certainly more stable than using xlobby directly.

A ton of plugings are available for different apps, and it easy to use the sendmessage interface to control xlobby.

I have been very impressed with it,

Sean.

Thanks Sean....
Well, my system is running perfectly with Girder today, but I would like to get rid of gireder and use the internal player in Xlobby. Thats why I am wondering.

I'll just try on my test rig
