Question on coverart import for music database

Postby WannaTheater on Thu Sep 28, 2006 2:13 am

Is there a way so specify a specific coverart filename for XL to look for while importing/building the music DB?

For example, my directory structure is as such:
D:\Music\Artist\Album\cover_front.jpg, where "cover_front.jpg" is the high-res cover file. The filename will be the same in every album directory.

I would like to have XL use "cover_front.jpg" as the coverart file. Since I may have other .jpg files in the directories as well, XL often picks these up instead.

And lastly, for directories where no "cover_front.jpg" exists, I would like for XL to use the default coverart pulled from the mp3 tag.... even if other jpg files are in the directory.

So in a nutshell
When it exists, use the file "cover_front.jpg" for artwork, else use ID3:coverart.

Possible?

Thanks!

I tried to just specify "cover_f.jpg" in the coverart field of the Import screen... no go, but I thought it would be worth a shot :D

Perhaps I'll look into writing a script to post-process the music.xml file.

Yeah if there was ever a standard made for xlobby to look for... I'd vote for folder.jpg since that is windows looks for.

Earlier this morning a wrote a VBscript that processes a music.xml file. It basically looks for a corresponding "cover_f.jpg" file in each album directory. If it finds it, it uses it as the coverart; otherwise it just leaves the coverart field as normal (which is pulled from ID3 tag).

I need to do a bit more work on it (for accuracy sake, as it sometimes fails to identify some coverart files), but it works fine as is. I created this because my "cover_f.jpg" files are much higher resolution than what gets pulled from tags. So if it misses a coverart file, it just used the default lower res ID3 tag.

I import with "ALBUM," and Folders Ignored. I haven't tried with ARTIST> ALBUM, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I can clean it up a bit if anyone is interested.
