Weather Doesn't Work :(

Postby Anzxio on Thu May 06, 2004 3:21 pm

I am using pre17, but the weather section does not work :( I get nothing there at all.
When i set my area (Plymouth, UK) it says:
UKXX0112 in the Current Forcasts section
However, nothing seems to download and i get get no weather! :(

Any ideas at all?

I guess you have images setup... If not checkout this thread:

If you do have the images is the proper place...have you tried using another region? If you can get data for another region you know something isn't right but I have a feeling that you just don't have the images where they should be.

Post back with some more details and we will try to help you out.

UKXX0112 in the Current Forcasts section

i remember someone saying it did that before...but online because it was an internet connection problem or something. Very strange I tested it on my and it worked. Could be the page is missing or something...delete it...and add it again....try that a couple times and tell me if you get the same results. Having the weather images or not wouldnt cause this problem...i think.

We descussed this problem on IRC yesterday, and i told Anzxio that i have had the same error, i just updated the location and it worked again.

Anzxio even sent me his whole xlobby to me to try it out and it worked for me (the weather section that is).

one thing though, while Anzxio cant get his weather working, i cant get the OS eject event to work, niether can i download covers or imdb stills.

Anzxio & Berra,
Just briefly read your chat posts. Anzxio, can you try the following tests below?
1)In the command prompt, type "nslookup w3.weather.com" without the quotes and hit enter.
Also do one for weather1.vip.scd.yahoo.com. This is to test if your dns is resolving the correct ip addresses. See sample below.

2) Try to ping 66.218.71.226 (yahoo weather) and 63.111.24.29 (weather.com). If you time out on the first one, try to do this in the command prompt: "tracert 66.218.71.226" and also for 63.111.24.29 and see how far you go. See sample below:

Note: You might timeout on the 63.111.24.29 (weather.com) since I think they set their routers to be unpingable. (hmmm, is there such a word) :roll:

The 66.218.71.226 ip address is from Yahoo's weather page. Not sure if this is still being used by Steven to get weather data but my firewall detected it trying to connect when I open xlobby after a fresh install. It could also be that your ISP blocks this ip addresses for some reason.

Berra, since you can eject your drive from "My Computer" and cannot using Xlobby and have also tried different drives/switches in the Event Manager, chances are is that another resident program is taking control of your drive. Burning programs & Multimedia programs (ie, creative) might be set to take control of the drive in your Registry settings. You might want to check any services, processes & your registry. :wink:

AirPost, I dont think its any other process or services thats in the way, i tried to install shellon so that it only starts up xlobby so that explorer or anything wont take over the eject event as you suspected.

i also get a strange error (a new bug maybe?) when trying to downlaod covers in the movie database, im not at home right now so i cant paste the exact error, but it gives me something like "cant find c:\movies\XXX\"

the problem is that the movie folder isent located in that folder, its on a mapped network directory.

i will post the exact error message later today if i get the time.

PS. Anzxio, im sorry that i have kind of taken over your topic, i will start a new one myself later.

AirPost:
Yahoo weather works out fine.
Weather.com times out though, but then you said that would happen!

I have the weather images so that shouldn't be a problem. I have tried this many times but nothing happens. It just doesn't seem to try to download anything at all :(

The news section of XLobby seems to work fine though!, it's just this weather section :(

And if you have your forecast.xml set as below?

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<forecasts>
<forecast>
<code>UKXX0112</code>
<metric>False</metric>
</forecast>
</forecasts>
