Trying out different front ends... FLAC problem

Postby jms969 on Thu Oct 06, 2005 9:11 pm

Hi guys... Obviously new to the forum

I am trying out different front ends and am experiencing an obvioiusly user induced FLAC problem.

When I try to import the music data XLobby gets about 100 (different every time) songs into a collection of >5000 and crashes.

I am not yet familiar enough with XL to ask intelligent questions, but would appreciate it if some of you power users could point me in the right direction...

Like I said im am certain that the issue is user induced.

BTW I am trying out Xlobby2 Pre-Release 1 of Simplicity

Thanks,

JMS

:)

I think it may be related to the file names of your songs. Look for any characters like:

< less than
> greater than
& ampersand
' apostrophe
" quotation mark

Pull those songs out to a different folder or rename them and it should import correctly. I think these are illegal XML characters and during song import Xlobby is trying to build your XML song database.

Good call summerall...

There are some file names with embedded ' and &, etc...

I will try to import one file with illegal file names and see what the failure mode is and then import a few clean ones and report back...

You might want to check the file tags for any weirdness as well (non-ASCII characters, etc.). If you don't have one already, there are a number of free tagers out there, MediaTagger being one...
